MRSA Infection

 MRSA infection

MRSA infection is caused by a bacteria that is resistant to most antibiotics and can be fatal!
Once the infection sets in, it is very hard to bring under control.
The bacteria starts eating at your tissue and in many cases there is some kind of surgery performed, followed by therapy and large doses of very potent antibiotics that kill good bacteria as well as the bad.

If this infection gets into your blood stream and internal organs you will be in a fight for your life. Most cases are skin infections, and can be brought under control with topical ointment if caught in time. If it goes on for a few days you will not like the process that follows.

The best way to prevent MRSA

  • Good Hygiene is the first step.
  • Washing hands often with antimicrobial soap
  • Keep wounds and scrapes clean and covered

Don't shake hands. It may seem impolite, but it is the #1 way to pass the bacteria. Wherever large groups of people gather, your chances of being in contact with mrsa goes way up.

CA-MRSA infections are endemic in many urban regions and cause most MRSA infections. also see Mercer Infection

Treating MRSA once you have it.

  • First, make sure to take all prescribed antibiotics
  • Please do not drink alcohol or use narcotics while in treatment
  • More often than not you will be home performing treatment
  • Always wash hands before and after treating MRSA wounds
  • Properly dispose bandage waste and packaging
  • Never leave wounds uncovered
  • Disinfect area where wounds were treated (ie. bath room)

As a fellow survivor of MRSA I also recommend using Alli-C.

Infections on the Rise.

As reported from the CDC

The number of MRSA infections in the United States has been increasing significantly. A 2007 report in Emerging Infectious Diseases, a publication of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), estimated the number of infections in hospitals doubled nationwide, from approximately 127,000 in 1999 to 278,000 in 2005, while at the same time annual deaths increased from 11,000 to more than 17,000.

Another study led by the CDC and published in the October 17, 2007 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association estimated that MRSA would have been responsible for 94,360 serious infections and associated with 18,650 hospital stay-related deaths in the United States in 2005.

These figures suggest that MRSA infections are responsible for more deaths in the U.S. each year than AIDS.
